The Fair Work Commission (“FWC”) has issued formal determinations that vary aspects of modern awards in three key industries for our clients.
Award variations continue to flow from the 4-year modern awards review. Here are some of the very latest:
General Retail Industry Award
The FWC has decided that junior rates will only apply to Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Award. This is critical for any retailers who are paying junior rates for higher classifications (such as shop managers, supervisors, second in charge or certain retail clerical roles). Subject to any objections about the effective date being lodged by 1 December, the change will apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 February 2021.
Health Professionals and Support Services Award
Dental Prosthetists, Dental Hygienists and Oral Health Therapists will be covered by the Award and added to the list of Common Health Professionals in Schedule B. This determination will take effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2021.
Seagoing Industry Award
Electro Technical Officers and Electrician classifications have been added to the definitions and wage tables in the Award. They will be effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2020.
