Court sends $46,000 message for mistake in payments
Date: 01/02/2012The Federal Magistrates Court has confirmed that it considers “sending a message” important and that it will impose significant penalties for underpayments even if they are accidental. The Fair Work Ombudsman’s prosecution of a Hungry Jack’s franchisee who co-operated openly and acted immediately to remedy the underpayments also reflects the growing focus on enforcement.

Date: 19/01/2012Employers covered by the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry Award 2010 now have clarity on new transition provisions for wages and penalties.
A Fair Work Australia Full Bench has created two sets of transition arrangements – one set for those classifications covered by the ASU’s Pay Equity application (Social and Community Employee and Crisis Accommodation Employee classifications) and another set for the Home Care and Family Day Care classifications.
